Be A Wax Artist!

Hair wax can add unbelievable texture and extreme definition- or, when used incorrectly, it can flatten your style in a matter of seconds! To apply hair wax without a hassle, try the following tips:

  • Look for a water-based wax, like Garnier Fructis Brilliantine Shine Wax ($3.99). It’s more pliable, which means no hardening or stiffness, and makes hair easier to style.
  • Less is more! Scoop out just enough to cover the pad of your finger. Remember, you can always add wax as you go!
  • Rub the wax between your fingers before applying to hair. This warms the wax, making it easier to apply, and also distributes it evenly across your fingers to avoid clumping.
  • For “blown back” or softer styles, lightly run your fingers through the hair to shape. For more intensely defined styles, try putting a small amount of wax on both hands, gripping the section of hair you are styling, and sliding both hands down the section from root to tip with ample pressure.

Add straight-from-the-sea texture to your hair with Blow Beach Blow Texturizing Mist ($20.00). This lightweight mist is pumped up with natural marine extracts to mimic the look of hair after a swim in the ocean. Just spray on to damp hair before styling and shape with fingers for sexy beach-worthy hair that isn’t sticky or waxy! Also, the convenient 5 ounce bottle fits easily into your bag for styling and touch ups on the go!

Give Curls a Natural Boost

Enhance your hair’s natural texture with The Body Shop Cottonseed Curl Boost ($12.00). This heat-activated formula defines and gives life to wavy and curly hair. Rich in fatty acids, cottonseed oil de-frizzes hair for smooth definition. A polymer derived from maize uses ‘curl memory’ to give your hair more bounce and vitality. Beyond a styling product, Curl Boost also conditions hair with wheat protein, community trade organic honey and panthenol.

Apply a small amount to damp hair, and shape curls or waves with your fingers. Then, blow dry or use a curling iron to activate the ingredients and maximize results. For more volume, apply heat to the roots of the hair, with your head flipped upside down.

Don’t let the summer heat get you down. Give your roots a pick-me-up with TIGI Catwalk Root Boost ($8.99)! This product lifts each strand from the root, giving your hair texture and body.

Apply to clean, mostly dry hair. Hold the can two to three inches away and mist at the roots, lifting hair as you go. Use a wide tooth comb or your fingers to fluff. Style as usual! By the way, this is a great product to try for keeping your updo from going flat!

Detangle, defrizz and condition with just one product! Ouidad Botanical Boost ($16) nourishes your hair with aloe and antioxidant vitamins to stimulate hair and add healthy shine. This leave-in conditioning spray is lightweight, so it won’t weigh you down or make hair greasy. You can even use it to refresh your hair on those “should have washed it” days!
Spray on wet or dry hair and work in with fingers or a wide tooth comb. Use this multi-tasking spray midday or after dinner to give new life to your look. Your style will keep on going, and so can you!

The Perfect Bobby Pin

One of the most traditional hair accessories has finally evolved. Scunci Comfort Curved Bobby Pins ($1.29, 60 count) curve to fit the shape of your head- which helps keep the pins in place, painlessly. Even the thickest hair is held securely, opening up unlimited styling options that wouldn’t be possible with other pins.

Try this easy updo for casual summertime events:
1. Start at your hairline and brush back a two inch wide “bangs” section. Secure with bobby pins. Loosen this “pouf” up a bit with your fingers.
2. Pull the remaining section of hair above your left ear into the ponytail in the middle of your head. Twist toward the center of your head and secure with bobby pins. Repeat with the right, and then secure remaining loose ends.
3. Roll the remaining hair at the base of your neck upwards until it reaches the center of the updo. Secure this section with pins, and loosen a bit with fingers if necessary.

You’re done! Always try to keep the bobby pins from being visible, be creative and have fun with your updo!

My Love Affair with the Karmin Hair Straightener

June 27, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Lately, when it comes to my hair, I have seemed to just settle with the fact that I do not have time to deal with it; it will be frizzy and up in a pony tail. I just don’t have the time on my hands to style my hair daily as a single mother of two young children. Then one day, as the children slept I decided to look up some information on a hair iron that a close friend of mine was raving about. Had she not lived 100’s of miles away, I would have just tried it out for myself; however, I had to go on her word.

I was a little skeptical to be honest, I mean, could a hair straightener really be the end to all of my frizz and boring hair days? What about humidity, rain and baby spit up? After reading some great reviews on the website my friend bought her flat iron on, My Hair Styling Tools, I decided what’s a $100 for a perfect hair day everyday? Besides, they promised, if I did not like it, I could send it back for a full refund.

Within less than a week my packaged arrived, I was very excited to be honest, and couldn’t wait to try it out! I plugged it in, and it was hot within seconds and ready to go. I sectioned off my hair and started straightening my hair section by section. As the iron smoothly glided down each section I became more and more amazed with the results it was producing. When I finished my entire head, about 10 minutes for my shoulder length thick hair, I stood there and stared at myself in the mirror. I was shocked! My hair was soft, shiny, smooth and FRIZZ FREE!

I couldn’t stop touching it, running my fingers through it, why had I waited so long? All I ever need for perfectly frizz free hair was a professional hair straightener and 10 minutes?! Needless to say, I am in love with my new Karmin Hair Iron, my hair has never looked better, rain or shine and my kids have not suffered from the 10 minutes I take every other day to spend on me styling my hair!
