The Buzz on Clippers

July 14, 2008 by Rhonda · Leave a Comment

Summertime usually means shorter haircuts, at least among the male members of our families. Once the hairstylist has established the initial haircut, maintaining it is a snap with the Classic 76 Clipper from Oster.

Oster 76 Classic

Oster clippers are among the top used by barbers and hairstylists because of their sturdiness, and they’re lightweight and easy to use. I frequently tell my clients to go with Oster if they choose to maintain boys’ buzzcuts at home (no more fighting!).

When you buy, definitely look for the kit that has all the accessories you see to the left; blade oil, brush, and the 7 piece attachment blade guard set. The blade number corresponds with the amount of hair removed (a standard for buzzcuts is with the “2″ guard).

Be sure to gently brush extra hair from the blade after every use, and oil the blade according to directions.

17 Minute Miracle from Joico K-Pak

Joico K-PAK

Joico has been a trusted standard in professional hair care for years. The original K-Pak treatment was one of the first, most widely-used in-salon treatments.

Fast forward to 2004, when Joico totally revamped K-Pak and extended it to a full line of shampoos, conditioners, and stylers. It was every hairstylist’s thrill, every client’s dream.

Now you can use specific products in the line to experience the K-Pak 17 Minute Miracle.

  1. Begin with K-PAK Chelating Shampoo to remove any build-up and start with a clean “palette”.
  2. Next, towel-dry hair and apply K-PAK Deep-Penetrating Reconstructor (this stuff is so amazing, it consistently wins Hairstylists’ Choice awards). Work gently through your hair and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse hair with cool water.
  3. Seal in all the goodness with Split End Mender, and finish with Liquid Reconstructor (both leave-in treatments).

You can do this at home once a week. In between, use K-Pak Shampoo, Conditioner, Intense Hydrator, and Leave-In Protectant.

“Hair’s” to Your Health: TIGI S-Factor

July 9, 2008 by Rhonda · Leave a Comment

Sorry for the bad pun, but it’s quite fitting when we’re talking about TIGI’s new line, S-Factor.

S-Factor

We’re all concerned with our health, and keeping our hair and scalp healthy is a no-brainer. A healthy scalp is the foundation for strong, healthy hair, and it’s especially important in summer.

S-Factor is formulated to to just that, with proteins and botanicals to support hair and scalp health. The line features shampoos and conditioners for both color-treated (Color Savvy) and “virgin” (not color treated) hair (Smoothing). It also includes Serious, a deep conditioner, and Papaya Leave-In Moisturizing Spray.

S-Factor has a couple of awesome treatments your hairstylist can use in the salon. EMTs (don’t you love the name?)- Extreme Moisture Therapy with Extreme Moisture Complex (a special blend that increases your hair’s ability to retain moisture) also come in 2 specialized formulas: Color Savvy, and Health Factor, for highlighted and over-processed hair. I spray this onto damp hair before cutting to condition my clients’ hair at the same time.

Balance Boosters are weekly treatments you can use at home to maintain your hair between salon services.

S-Factor’s stylers are protective and caring, too. For humidity-proof fullness and bounce, apply Body Booster to towel-dried hair and blow-dry with S-Factor’s amazing round Ceramic Brushes (you’re not still using metal round brushes, are you?). I totally dig Dream Drops and Creamy Molding Wax; I make a styling cocktail by emulsifying them together in my hands and applying to dry hair to give a piece-y look to my clients’ hair with outrageous shine (don’t overdo it — a little goes a long way).
