Straighten, flip and curl with the versatile Farouk Pink Dazzle CHI 1” Flat Hair Iron ($114.95). This ergonomically designed, limited edition iron is lightweight, and comes with a matching pink travel case. With a side on-off switch and 360 degree swivel cord, this iron is incredibly easy to use on your own hair, or someone else’s. Ceramic plates and coils maintain an even temperature and produce negative ions to give you professional results every time. Traditional copper coils can dry hair and cause damage, but the ceramic heat helps ions penetrate deeply to seal the cuticle and repel humidity. As an added bonus, the CHI iron uses just 20-25 watts of electricity, so it saves energy while saving your hair.

Outsmart Rainy Day Frizz!

Bad weather doesn’t have to mean a bad hair day! Follow these easy tips to prepare yourself for what Mother Nature might throw at you (and your hair!) :
-Apply a frizz-fighting serum to towel-dried hair. Use a wide tooth comb to evenly distribute.
-Blow hair dry using a large round brush (like this one, $12.99)- this smooths the cuticle from root to tip.
-Straighten one inch sections of hair to make your locks more resilient against humidity.
-Use a headband or pull hair into a low bun for the commute. This prevents your hair from getting windblown on the way to your destination.
-When you get indoors, let your hair down and admire your soft, shiny style!
Wanna Play? KMS California Hair Play

I’ve long been a big fan of KMS, and their hair play line of texturizing stylers is too much fun. It immediately makes me think of playing volleyball at the beach, with ingredients like lime and cilantro (doesn’t that just scream summer fun?).
The line includes:
- texture blast — mist on damp hair to ban humidity and give thermal protection
- hyper paste — for medium-hold piecing and shine
- molding paste — gives a textured, matte finish (think: sexy seashore hair!)
- paste up spray – working spray for texture and separation
- soft wax – for flexible hold plus shine
- hard wax — for strong but pliable hold plus shine
I adore the KMS California website. It has tons of styling ideas, and don’t miss the news ticker at the bottom of the home page (one of the few hair manufacturers’ websites that offers real-time KMS news-you-can-use).
Washing Leads to Hair Loss?
July 10, 2008 by Courtney · Leave a Comment
Between heat, humidity and hitting the pool, you may find yourself washing your hair more often in summer. But does washing too frequently really lead to hair loss?
No need to panic! Even if you do notice that you’re shedding some strands, keep in mind that losing anywhere from 100-150 hairs on a daily basis is completely normal. If you are concerned about the amount of hair loss, however, it’s best to see a doctor. It’s more likely that hair loss is caused by hormones, medication, stress or nutrition than your washing routine.
Though frequent washing alone will not cause hair loss, keep in mind that dry, damaged or chemically treated hair is more likely to suffer breakage during washing. To prevent this, don’t rub too vigorously when washing or towel drying, and make sure that you condition, condition, condition! Your hair will be healthy, beautiful and more resilient.

My Love Affair with the Karmin Hair Straightener
June 27, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Lately, when it comes to my hair, I have seemed to just settle with the fact that I do not have time to deal with it; it will be frizzy and up in a pony tail. I just don’t have the time on my hands to style my hair daily as a single mother of two young children. Then one day, as the children slept I decided to look up some information on a hair iron that a close friend of mine was raving about. Had she not lived 100’s of miles away, I would have just tried it out for myself; however, I had to go on her word.
I was a little skeptical to be honest, I mean, could a hair straightener really be the end to all of my frizz and boring hair days? What about humidity, rain and baby spit up? After reading some great reviews on the website my friend bought her flat iron on, My Hair Styling Tools, I decided what’s a $100 for a perfect hair day everyday? Besides, they promised, if I did not like it, I could send it back for a full refund.
Within less than a week my packaged arrived, I was very excited to be honest, and couldn’t wait to try it out! I plugged it in, and it was hot within seconds and ready to go. I sectioned off my hair and started straightening my hair section by section. As the iron smoothly glided down each section I became more and more amazed with the results it was producing. When I finished my entire head, about 10 minutes for my shoulder length thick hair, I stood there and stared at myself in the mirror. I was shocked! My hair was soft, shiny, smooth and FRIZZ FREE!
I couldn’t stop touching it, running my fingers through it, why had I waited so long? All I ever need for perfectly frizz free hair was a professional hair straightener and 10 minutes?! Needless to say, I am in love with my new Karmin Hair Iron, my hair has never looked better, rain or shine and my kids have not suffered from the 10 minutes I take every other day to spend on me styling my hair!
